Kerala Public Service Commission : HSST Commerce Senior/ Junior/ NVT Shortlist will be published soon
Trivandrum: The short list of the candidates to be selected as Higher Secondary School Teacher Commerce Senior and Junior and Non Vocational Teacher in Commerce Senior (HSST Commerce Sr & Jr and NVT Commerce Sr) may be published very soon according to the information got from a call to PSC Office. The short list will contain 1000 candidates. It is not clear whether 1000 is in the main list only or it is including the supplementary list.
The applications were invited in 2011 as a common test for the above 3 posts, for which the qualification is same, MCom, B.Ed and SET. The test was conducted on 27/4/2012. It became somehow controversial as about 25 questions were from the 'Marginal costing' contained about 18 problem questions. Some of them argued it was to help some coaching lobbies and it is a newer method of malpractice of revealing questions in advance. But no proof could be produced.
The total applicants were nearly 5100. The online application with dated photo was introduced for the first time to this application and so the PSC server was busy and many of the applicants applied 2 or 3 times. The total appeared is nearly 3500. The question paper is moderately tough as the presence of problem question. 9 Questions were deleted for unclear, wrong answers and so the total is out of 91. If 1000 candidates are in mainlist the cut off may be between 35- 45, according to some observants. If the all list including supplementary is 1000, then there will be maximum 500 in mainlist and the cut off will be 50-55
If any one has some idea or opinion, please post here

The information is received from a phone call to PSC Office and they said it is decided to include 1000 candidates in the list and it is being approved in meeting. The cut off will be decided to include such number of candidates. The valuation and listing has completed and now to finalise the list and it will be within 2 weeks ( The call was made in April second week)

HSST Commerce cut off
Hello Anoop sir,
Do you know the latest position of HSST Short list? I have been in busy with some personal affairs and so could not keep updated with position. Some of my friends said that the cut off will be nearly 40, I don't know it is their desire or having a logic behind it. Their prediction is as follows
Marks------------------------------------- No.of students
80- 90................................................. 10- 25
75-80....................................................25-50
70-75....................................................50-75
65-70....................................................75-100
60-65....................................................100-125
55-60....................................................125-150
50-55....................................................150-200
45-50....................................................200-250
40-45....................................................250-300
Total.................................................. 985-1275
According to this observation the cut off is 40 if minimum and 45 if it is maximum. If you have any opinion, suggestion or view, don't hesitate to post

More on cut off
From the web sources I could receive the following information related with HSST commerce, Since I am a commerce post graduate and one of those who appeared in that Exam, I made a clear watch in the situation of HSST commerce. The information received and known to most of us.
The exam was conducted on 27/6/2012 at 8 am. The no.of candidates appeared for Exam is 4302. The exam was conducted for 3 posts namely HSST Senior, Junior and NVT commerce combined. The exam conducted i 2006 was separate. The cut off for each was nearly 67 and 66. The senior HSST and junior list contained less than 400 candidates in the main list.
Some general facts related with cut off of any standard objective test is as follows:
1] The cut off is related with many factors like number of available post and number of candidates sanctioned to be included in the list. Here it is said that 1000 candidates are proposed to include in the list of HSST. The easy level/ difficulty level of question paper, the number of questions omitted, the relative and individual intelligent capacity and knowledge, emotional and competitive level of candidates also plays a role in the cut off position
2] For common exams like university exam, other qualifying test, 35% is the standard pass mark. Now it is relieved as D+ grade or 30%. The logic behind this is the statistical laws of distribution. A standard test with 50% difficulty/easy level of question will cause a 50% to pass when 35% is taken as cut off. Suppose there are 5000 candidates for such a standard test, considering other factors are normal, the number of passed will be 2500 when 35% is the pass mark. If 5% marks is more reduced ie. 30% is the pass mark, like the present SSLC and HSC Exam a 20 m0re % ie 70% will be passed. The present SSLC and HSC takes 90% because of the moderation and out of low difficulty level and liberalized valuation. This is about all tests and without negative scoring. The PSC Exams are with negative marks and so there needs some more calculation. In any of test the number of candidates in upper 15% and lower 15% will be very less or negligible. That means only few candidates get above 85% or below 15%. Thus in a distribution of 100%. when taking those upper and lower percentage, it becomes total 70 and the average is (85-15)/2= 35, and so 35% is the standard pass mark
Analysis of cut off for HSST
No.of questions or Maximum mark to be achieved- 91.
Normal rule of objective type test withot negative mark: 60% of candidates will be below 40% and 40% of students will be above 40% (40 to 100%). But for KPSC only 1/3 negative ie. a candidate get lessened one full mark for only 3 mistakes. So the normal law cannot be taken as cent percent here. A modified law of 65% of candidates will be below 45% can be adopted here.
40% of the total 91- 36
65% is below 37 marks mean 35% will be above 36 marks. It means there will be 1505 candidates in HSST exam having marks above 36.Again on a scientific manner if it is distributed we can get the following table.
Class------------------- No.of candidates
36-40------------======500
40-50--------------------400
50-60.-------------------300
60-70--------------------200
70-91............................100
In higher mark area, the no.of candidates will be low and towards lower the number of candidates will be high. But in the very lowest area ie, 0 to 15% class it is again the number of candidates will be low. From the above it is clear that 40 is the cut off when 1000 number of candidates are selected. Don't forget it is based on the following assumption
1. The test was a standardized test. But it was a biased one contained a positive skewness towards questions in marginal costing
2. The difficulty/easy level of question is average and lies between 45 to 55%. But HSST test was considered as more difficult for 75% of students and so this factor may reduce the cut off
3. There is no malpractice. If malpractice has taken place, a good percentage of students will get high marks and this will cause a rise in cut off
4. The intelligence level of candidates is normally distributed. This indicates the number students with huge preparation and without preparation is almost same. When all students are brilliant and competent and prepared to get 90% of marks, the cut off will automatically rise. But the situation for HSST was normal`
OK wish you all the best. If you have any doubt or opposition in my opinion or to add anything please post it
This is based on keeping other assumption

Thanks for your information Mr. Bennyraj. Have you asked the no.of candidates that may be included in mainlist?
One thing is sure, for an exam appeared by 3402 candidates cannot include 1000 with a cut off of 60, otherwise mass malpractice taken place. It is OK for exam like LDC where more than one lac people write

Once again thanks Bennyraj sir for your kind information.
HSST history short list has only 520 candidates in mainlist. Moreover deleted questions were only 2. For commerce, the maximum is 91. [9 questions deleted] . Yet if only 450-500 candidates are in mainlist of commerce, the cut off may be around 60

List is some more large
Yesterday from a phone call from my friend I came to know the HSST list is not published on account of a representation given by some Kottayam based candidates. He said it was decided to include 1000 candidates in the list in accordance with a decision taken in the meeting on March 25 and the list was decided to publish at April. But some students has given a representation arguing more candidates should be included in list. In the representation, they stated it is for 3 posts in two departments. Moreover if 1000 candidates are short listed, about 300 of them will be disqualified due to Non B.Ed or SET and remaining 700 will get a place in the ranklist, which will be insufficient for 3 posts. My friend said that, by virtue of these representation PSC is considering more people to include in the list.
However When I called to office, they told the "old two week number" and nothing said about cut off. When asked about the representation, the reply was "I don't know"
I think someone will update this
