Vocational education in schools Mumbai
Vocational education could become a compulsory subject at the
secondary level in secondary schools if the ideas recommended by
participants at a conference organised on National Education Day by the
school and higher and technical education departments along with accepted by the state
government.Aiming at creating a workforce for the industry, the
Directorate of Vocational Education and Training ( DVET) plans to
increase the intake capacity of students at pre-SSC level from the
current 4.3% to 10% of the total students' intake by 2022. At HSC level,
the directorate plans to double the intake of students in vocational
education in a decade. The participants at the conference also
recommended ideas which will soon be submitted to the state's school
education department. Apart from dedicating significant lectures in the
time table for vocational education and also setting up workshops in
every school, the participants also have suggested to change the
nomenclature to 'work-centered' education.
